ABOUT ME

Shannon was raised on a small hobby farm in the Top of Texas. She participated in 4-H Livestock programs showing sheep and steers.  She also spent her childhood learning from her dad and older sisters how to care for, respect, and safely enjoy the family's American Paint Horses while riding and on the ground.

She left the Top of Texas after high school to earn a Management Information Systems degree from Texas A&M University where she met and married her husband, Jason.

In 2000, she and Jason relocated to the Northwest. After 6 years of working in the business consulting and IT industry, she traded her professional business ambitions for the opportunity to homeschool their four children.  During her 18 years of homeschooling, Shannon has discovered a passion for lifelong learning and how to instill that in children.  She now has experience working with different learning styles of children, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic and has discovered the benefits of a multi-sensory approach in teaching.  Having children with dyslexia and ADHD, she has learned to embrace the advantages, and navigate the challenges that many children face.

In 2020, her family transferred to Colorado Springs, CO where she reconnected with horses.  During a family vacation to Iceland, she was introduced to the Icelandic Hest (horse).  Upon return, she was blessed to purchase her amazing Ketill.  He is continually teaching her about the benefits of being around horses, plus his furry coat and curious personality makes him a favorite to cuddle!

She is thrilled to have the opportunity at Kiana Creek Equestrian Center to combine her love of the animal-filled life with her love of learning in a program that will share both with the youngest of riders and their families.

When not homeschooling or working with horses,  Shannon loves starting her days with Jesus and coffee, family time, hiking, traveling with family, volunteering at church, spending time the family's 9 other pets, and reading great books.
